GUIDELINES FOR AUTHORS CONTRIBUTION

1. ABOUT THE JOURNAL

The Journal of Management Research, Entrepreneurship and Strategy (JMRES) is a peer-reviewed scholarly journal published by the Department of Business Administration, Faculty of Management Sciences, University of Jos, Nigeria.

JMRES provides a platform for the dissemination of high-quality, original, and impactful research that advances knowledge and practice in management, entrepreneurship, strategy, and related disciplines. The journal welcomes contributions from scholars, researchers, practitioners, policymakers, consultants, and postgraduate students from Nigeria and across the globe.

The journal is published annually in both print and online formats, with publication scheduled for September 1 of each year.

The journal encourages both theoretical and empirical contributions, including studies addressing emerging economies and global perspectives.

3. TYPES OF MANUSCRIPTS ACCEPTED

JMRES accepts the following categories of manuscripts:

Original Research Articles
Reports of empirical or theoretical research findings.

Review Articles
Critical and systematic reviews of existing literature.

Conceptual Papers
Papers that develop theories, frameworks, propositions, or models.

Case Studies
Practice-oriented analyses of organizations, industries, policies, or entrepreneurial ventures.

Research Notes
Short scholarly contributions addressing emerging issues or preliminary findings.

4. ORIGINALITY REQUIREMENTS

Submitted manuscripts must:

  • Be original and unpublished.
  • Not be under consideration by another journal.
  • Be free from plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, or duplicate publication.
  • Properly acknowledge all sources of information.

Authors shall submit only work that complies with accepted standards of academic integrity.

5. MANUSCRIPT PREPARATION

General Format

Manuscripts must be prepared in Microsoft Word and should conform to the following requirements:

  • Paper size: A4
  • Font: Times New Roman
  • Font size: 12-point
  • Line spacing: Double
  • Margins: One (1) inch on all sides
  • Text alignment: Justified
  • Maximum length: 18 pages, including abstract, tables, figures, references, and appendices
  • Page numbers: Consecutively numbered

6. MANUSCRIPT STRUCTURE

Title Page

The title page should be submitted separately and contain:

  • Title of the manuscript
  • Full names of all authors
  • Institutional affiliations
  • Corresponding author’s name
  • Email addresses
  • Telephone number of corresponding author
  • ORCID ID(s), where available

To ensure a double-blind review process, author-identifying information must not appear in the main manuscript.

Main Manuscript

Title
The title should be concise, informative, and reflective of the content of the manuscript.

Abstract
An abstract of not more than 200 words should precede the main body of the manuscript.

The abstract should briefly state:

  • Purpose of the study
  • Methodology
  • Key findings
  • Major implications

Keywords
Provide at least four (4) keywords immediately after the abstract.

7. TABLES, FIGURES, AND APPENDICES

Tables

  • Tables should be numbered consecutively.
  • Each table must have a clear title.
  • Sources must be acknowledged where applicable.

Figures

  • Figures should be numbered consecutively.
  • Captions should appear below figures.
  • Graphics should be clear and suitable for publication.

Appendices
Appendices should appear after the reference list.

8. REFERENCING STYLE

JMRES adopts the American Psychological Association (APA) 7th Edition referencing style.

In-Text Citation Examples

Single Author:
(Folagbade, 2025)

Two Authors:
(Dakung & Nmadu, 2024)

Three or More Authors:
(Maimako et al., 2023)

Journal Article

Authors are responsible for ensuring that all references cited in the text appear in the reference list and vice versa.

9. SUBMISSION PROCEDURE

All manuscripts should be submitted electronically in Microsoft Word format to:
jmres@unijos.edu.ng

The submission should include:

  • Manuscript file
  • Separate title page
  • Author declaration of originality
  • Evidence of payment of the prescribed processing fee

Submissions that do not comply with these requirements may be returned to authors before review.

10. PEER REVIEW PROCESS

JMRES operates a double-blind peer review system.

Initial Editorial Screening

Submitted manuscripts are screened for:

  • Scope alignment
  • Originality
  • Scholarly quality
  • Methodological rigor
  • Formatting compliance
  • Similarity index

Full Review

Eligible manuscripts are assigned to a minimum of two independent reviewers. Where conflicting recommendations arise, a third reviewer may be appointed.

Review Timeline

The review process is expected to be completed within three (3) to five (5) weeks.

Editorial Decisions

Possible decisions include:

  • Accept
  • Accept with Minor Revisions
  • Major Revisions Required
  • Reject

The Editor-in-Chief makes the final publication decision.

11. PUBLICATION ETHICS

JMRES is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics.

The journal adopts a zero-tolerance policy towards:

  • Plagiarism
  • Data fabrication
  • Data falsification
  • Duplicate publication
  • Unethical research practices

Authors are expected to comply with accepted ethical standards in conducting and reporting research.

12. SIMILARITY INDEX POLICY

All manuscripts shall be subjected to plagiarism screening using recognized similarity-detection software.

  • Manuscripts with excessive similarity may be rejected at the editorial screening stage.
  • Final accepted manuscripts must have a similarity index below 10%.

Authors are encouraged to conduct similarity checks before submission.

13. ARTICLE PROCESSING AND PUBLICATION FEES

JMRES operates a sustainable publication model.

Authors shall be required to pay:

  1. A non-refundable manuscript processing fee upon submission.
  2. A publication fee upon acceptance.

Applicable fees shall be determined periodically by the Editorial Board.

Authors whose manuscripts are published can request for one (1) copy of the journal issue in which their article appears with additional cost.

14. COPYRIGHT

Authors retain responsibility for the content of their manuscripts.

Upon acceptance, authors shall grant JMRES the right to publish and distribute the work in print and electronic formats.

The views expressed in published articles are those of the authors and do not necessarily represent those of the Editorial Board, Department of Business Administration, Faculty of Management Sciences, or the University of Jos.

15. PUBLICATION SCHEDULE

JMRES follows the annual publication schedule below:

  • Call for Papers: May 1
  • Submission Deadline: June 15
  • Review Process: June–July
  • Editorial Decision: August 1
  • Publication Date: September 1

16. AUTHOR CHECKLIST

Before submission, authors should ensure that:

  • ✓ The manuscript falls within the scope of JMRES.
  • ✓ The manuscript is original and not under consideration elsewhere.
  • ✓ The manuscript is written in Microsoft Word format.
  • ✓ The manuscript does not exceed 18 pages.
  • ✓ APA 7th Edition referencing style has been used.
  • ✓ Abstract does not exceed 200 words.
  • ✓ At least four keywords are provided.
  • ✓ Author information has been removed from the main manuscript.
  • ✓ Tables and figures are properly numbered.
  • ✓ References are complete and accurate.
  • ✓ Similarity level is within acceptable limits.
  • ✓ Required processing fee has been paid.
